Would you stand up and speak up on someones behalf if injustice was done to them and they couldn’t defend themselves?
I know it’s a bit harsh and just a different interpretation but one could easily read your stance as “at least i don’t actively hurt others, so dont shame me for not caring about them as long as it doesn’t affect me”

Sounds rational to me. I’ve also observed many who purport to “care so much”, but it’s really a veil to dodge accountability or otherwise manipulate or pull various social levers. I steer clear of those that are quick to play social games, including shame, to gain status or get their way.
I’ll take rational, well-reasoned, and balanced empathy over manic, performative forms of “care” any day of the week. i.e.: It’s nowhere near a simple binary, those that care and those that don’t. Deceitful opportunists infect all demographics.

In front of me? Yes, but i wouldn’t go volunteering saving oppressed people.
