Flush camera seems like such a boon, I don’t know why the major manufacturers insist on these abhorrent bumps.

Because reviewers started obsessing with zero bezels and thinness, so manufacturers had to also maximize those things.

I saw a laptop review where there was a hole punch camera, so no mechanical shutter. The yt personality thought that was stupid, so they asked the manufacturer what they were thinking. “Our last product had the shutter but you gave it a poor review because the bezels were too big. We designed for smaller bezels to get a better review”

People demand that their phones take decent pictures, and that’s really difficult without focal length. Which in turn is really difficult to decrease.

Yes, decent, as in just ok. I want more battery. If I want amazing photos, i would buy a camera.

I shopped around for a camera, my only requirements were pocket size (easy) and open-point-shoot quickly, like in a couple of seconds (impossible).

I double tap my volume button and take a photo in 1-2 seconds with my phone, Leika lense stuff (not obnoxiously potruding), way enough for me.

Would love a really small fast camera though, but waiting 15-20 seconds for it all to whirr together takes like the fun out of it for me.

Yeah agreed. I honestly don’t take enough pictures to care about the camera. I do occasionally play games on my phone so I get stuck with the bump because those are the ones that can play games. I too wish for larger battery.

But the reason they insist on going with the bumps is because people expect the phone to take a decent photo. They can probably make one without the bump but it is unlikely that most people would buy it (or be happy with it).

I mean, if the entire phone was made the same thickness as the camera bump, that would give more room for a larger battery and more powerful components, and frankly, it would still be a pretty thin phone, and easier to handle (oh, and they could put the fingerprint scanner back on the back where it’s convenient and reliable)

People don’t want to lug a camera all over the place just in case they want a good photo, they want to be able to make a decent photo with the small brick that they always have with them anyway

And I am one of them. While I might not care too much about the highest quality pictures, I would still appreciate better ones if possible

Check out Ulefone. They have a line of phones with 15-22Ah batteries. My phone weighs 1.4lbs. I always have streaming video playing, and I recharge every 3 days.
