Kirk was known for sharing extreme and provocative positions online and in frequent on-campus appearances. His killing has sparked messages threatening violence.
I got to wonder about articles like this. The mainstream media thrives on manufacturing drama, so if they can find even a sniff of an increase in online messaging, they’re going to post stories like this. And the problem they face is that basically reality disagrees with their prediction.
First, the violent right was already violent. So, what exactly are they telling us is going to happen? Are they going to say that people will shoot up schools or storm the capital or murder politicians? Those already happened. What exactly are they predicting? That’s going to be worse than what we already have? Of course they won’t tell us, because they’re trying to cell slop.
A second, I don’t think violent gun nuts actually give a s*** about the dead guy. They might put his name on a poster and use it for a few memes or something, but they didn’t really care about him, because they basically lack empathy for other human beings in general. He can’t really be a martyr if no one gives a f*** that he’s dead.
Of course, it’s also possible that they’re correct, that the militant right are just looking for an excuse to go kill more people, and this is the one they’re going to jump on. But then it wouldn’t really matter what happened, if it wasn’t this, it would have been something else. They want an excuse to go kill minorities, they’re going to find one.
I think their love for him was fake but I think they really did worship him in their own way because he got away with spewing hatred that they didn’t always have the guts to spew themselves. And he taught them some new advanced hatreds they hadn’t even thought of. All wrapped in that Prager U illusion of common sense and logic.
