I was just reading the wikis on JB and the Pritzker family. Jay Pritzker dies in 1999, divies his fortune 11 was equally, JB being one of them, 1.4b a piece (essentially). Right after this, it talks about how many of the pritzkers have set up organizations for philanthropy. JB’s net worth? 3.9b. Sometimes you give so much it comes right back to you.
But like everything, there is nuance, so he’s certainly not at the front of the line.

The problem isn’t that a Democrat is “standing up” to Trump via the usual “words not actions”, it’s that it’s Newsom, who has also heavily courted prominent far right figures before as well. He doesn’t believe in what he says, he just cares about power as well, and based off his recent actions, he’d likely do nothing to reign in the right wing significantly, let alone prevent anywhere dictator wannabe like Trump down the line.
It’d be like cheering on Franco criticizing Hitler, for a more well known but hyperbolic example.
But yeah, last point is true - the US government is so broken it’d be better for the world for it to either balkanize or restructure entirely to a completely new system.

There’s a civil war brewing, there are people taking over the government, and the left is still hung up on getting the perfect Democrat speaking up, like, not even a candidate. We unfortunately have only two viable parties at the moment. Whoever becomes the Democratic nominee will be the only choice we have.

Anybody that hopes we can make progress on major tissues such as climate change, wage inequality, or protecting marginalized groups.
Anybody who wants those things better deserves to lose if the Democrats put forth a bad candidate?
Not to defend the weakness that they offer, they do it for other reasons too, but I don’t know if a stronger candidate would survive the system or the public. It’s a Catch-22 that’s led to this pattern, someone who wants to improve things gets attacked from all sides and fails. Carlin said it’s GIGO, this is the best we can get from the society we have, but I think it’s also a feedback loop. You can’t use the same broken system to fix itself, it has to be done externally.
It is a fair point, someone with a better record of supporting workers and marginalized communities may have less of a shot. But I still believe that we should use the time that we have to find the best candidate possible. Newsom is hopefully not the best that we can find.
