From age and ID restrictions on the Internet, to charging rappers with “terrorism,” the U.K. is demolishing the most basic civil liberties. If we let them, U.S. leaders may be close behind.
lol, has the journalist not been paying attention to whats been going on in the US?
I thought that the US charging people with terrorism willy-nilly was already par for the course
There’s no domestic terrorism charge in the US. Only foreign organizations can be declared to be terrorist organizations. First Amendment.
Edit: And even then only giving material support for such organizations is a chargeable offense.
Luigi Mangione was indicted on charges of murder as an act of terrorism.
Oh true. Lemme correct that: There’s nothing such as a domestic terrorist organization in the US. The point being that it’s impossible under US law to make affiliation with or support for a domestic organization a criminal act. The charge is dubious all around, but it’s not an attack on free speech.
No organisations. Individuals can be declared terrorists and held indefinitely and have their human rights violated up to and including torture without even seeing a judge. USA! USA! USA!
Are there US citizens in Gitmo? If so then that’s definitely fucked up, if no then it’s still fucked up, but it’s the imperialist kind of fucked up which is a completely different conversation.
What does the citizenship matter? Is a person only entitled to not being tortured if they have a specific piece of paper?
I’m pretty sure I already addressed that.
As if the current administration gives a fuck about the constitution.
Really? All of the 30 countries in America? I thought it’s just the USA

In English, most other languages refer to North America and South America as America only.
The realisation that the distinction between north and south is made mostly for racist reasons hits you after you learn that many US-americans only think of the USA and Canada when they talk about North America
This Current Affairs is one of these magazines where you know what you get before you click the link, similar to ‘media’ outlets like Jacobin. This serves a propaganda purpose for anti-democratic regimes only, it’s not aiming at publishing independent research.
They cited their evidence, where’s yours?
O noes you insulted the “Lefties’” favorite link!
They’ll certainly be by to express snarkish disaffected contempt!
The U.S. really seems to become more and more like China …
Russia is the Country you’re really looking for. China actually invests in infrastructure and is much much less religious than the US.
Except they don’t get high speed rail in exchange.
So, China from Temu. Ironic.
Russia, not China.
*Low public budget China.
