From age and ID restrictions on the Internet, to charging rappers with “terrorism,” the U.K. is demolishing the most basic civil liberties. If we let them, U.S. leaders may be close behind.

    There’s a balance to be achieved here. Free speech vs accountability. I can say what I want, but if I say a bunch of lies I should be called on it. We have to fight misinformation but it’s way more energy intensive to fight it than to provide it. So how can we achieve a good balance? I don’t think banning Palestinian groups is a good idea. I think regulation of the press might help so they can’t publish nonsense.

      What we’re seeing in Britain (among others) is the logical conclusion of the balance you’re talking about. You can’t give the government censorship powers with a pinky promise not to use it irresponsibly and expect it to work.
