Thats cute if you think I’m ever giving Paradance anymore money
The high seas have you covered!
@USSBurritoTruck @TrekSite I am not a toy! Do NOT play with me
Fun, but when I first heard my mother utter the words “Jim Henson collaboration”, I was hoping it would be really cool practical effects alien creatures, though I guess Farscape already did that.
Who bets this will be placed after a new record for most depressing episode in the franchise like they did with the musical?
Dang the musical episode was a major highlight for me 🤷♂️
Oh, I too enjoyed the musical episode. In case I wasn’t clear, I meant was the musical episode was placed AFTER a string of really depressing episodes to lighten the mood a bit, and I bet they’ll do the same with this one.
Ohhh I totally misread your comment. Whew!
The inevitable next step after the musical episode. It was either this or Thunderbirds style marionettes like Stargate did.
Hell, even in Trek, LDecks did it, to an extent.
However, that doesn’t mean the SNW take isn’t going to be good, and maybe even have a new approach to the concept.

All I know about that show is they did a singing episode and it’s set in the TOS era. After the bad taste of whatever Discovery was attempting… You know StarTrek…
Never mind.
It really is some of the best Star Trek that’s been done.
What kind of Star Trek, does it get uber and blatantly philosophical like TOS?
Or is it more philosophy with high stakes adventures with 80s carpet/comfort wholesome friend times, like TNG?
Or is more geopolitics and spy shit with Holocaust commentary like DS9?
Or is it, awww fuck, let the matriarchy blow it all up and break all the rules like Voyager?
Because they’re the only Star Treks I recognized (and Lower Decks of course, everyone loves that).
So if it’s the “Aren’t space-American cute” bullshit of Enterprise, or the Netflix lens flares and force fed luke warm politics of Discovery - then I’m not really interested.
P.S I have no comment on the JJ Abrams stuff.
P.P.S As you can tell, I’m an out of touch, elderly millennial crank.
Strange New Worlds catches the feels of TOS without feeling dated. It honors the best of TOS, Next Generation, DS9, and Voyager, but leaves behind the parts that don’t really work anymore. There are women on the bridge and Rick Berman’s shadow is long gone. Although there is still some interpersonal drama, it doesn’t feel nearly as center stage as it did in Discovery, focusing more on the adventure and focusing less on ACTING-centric monologues that made Discovery unbearable sometimes. I wouldn’t call the politics luke warm, though they are maybe a more subtle and less center stage than they were in Discovery. In general, my feeling is that Strange New Worlds has distanced itself from all the parts of Discovery that didn’t work for me.
My chief gripe is that Spock is often way more emotional than makes sense.
-A millennial that watched every episode of Next Generation at least twice, once when they aired and again from VHS tapes when my dad got home from work. I guess I’ve watched them all way more than twice now.
Most of that, yes. And it’s great
Have you watched any of SNW or are you deciding to pass judgement on a show based on… Nostalgia?
Its a really good show and the musical episode doesn’t feel out of place in an episodic Star Trek show. I think you should give it a good try. The show is a lot of fun and is a return to classic episodic trek with great stories intertwined.
😂
Strange New Worlds is great and really makes me feel like I’m watching good classic trek.
They need new show runners. Paramount just got bought out by SkyDance, so we’ll see if they make any changes or leave this franchise on its current course.
