This is the strip that taught me what the phrase ‘If looks could kill.’ means.
In this case, is the would the completed form be “If looks could kill, I’d be dead”, or “If looks could kill, the ducks would be dead”?
It’s the former. The ducks are mad at Calvin and glaring at him as he floats away. If looks could kill, Calvin would be dead.
Growing up, I always assumed Calvin almost gave those ducks a heart attack.
