International views of Israel and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu are much more negative than positive, according to a Pew Research Center survey of 24 countries conducted this spring.

Netanyahu and the IDF are pure evil. Our 🇨🇦 former PM Trudeau said he was a “Zionist” (while wearing a kippa) in one of his little theatrical speeches. Meanwhile, his Zionist buddies are killing babies and pregnant women. I could just puke. Oh, a comment similar to this got me banned from Reddit for “hate speech.” Apparently, Israel is above ALL criticism and murdering children is their God-given right. Imagine that.

The media shift is happening right now. It started about 3 weeks ago, and suddenly the media shifts from pro-israel to anti-israel. At least here in central europe this is what’s happening.

My personal conspiracy theory (here is a dumpster full of salt to take with it, take it as you will) is that a major PR operation was underway to rationalize committing genocide against arabs “in defense of the jews”, drive up wealth inequality in the empire by hollowing out the social safety net and when it reached a breaking point in the empire turn around and say “We have been betrayed! The jews said they needed to be saved in Israel and we had NO idea they were committing genocide!!! Look what they did to our economy too they stole it and gave it to billionaires!!!” and hopefully trigger a world wide conflict where a violent line could be drawn between reasonable people.

The thing is, it didn’t work, the U.S. public was before the start of the palestinian genocide perhaps arguably in a place where the structural ability to shape the narrative in the media coupled with ownership of ALL major social media companies by rightwing conservative billionaires who are ideologically onboard with this plan whether they know about the plan or not… but now? Now the truth has gotten to too many people with hearts.

Given those conditions imagine you are a middle level player in a plan like that and suddenly it has become apparent that your side has existentially lost? What would the behavior of someone look like in that headspace? I think it looks a lot like what is happening right now, very very very scary plans being enacted in a rushed haphazard way almost like they didn’t have all the pieces in place to make it work and were starting to realize they were only going to have less pieces in the future, not more.

I can tell you why) Trump and the US have rebelled against the EU, so now the EU has only one ally, and that is Turkey. The US now belongs to Moscow, so for the EU it is a matter of survival.

It’s not organized by left and right. It’s organized by percentage of people who have an unfavorable view of Israel.

It would be weirder for 0% to be on the right and 100% to be on the left. Also, in theory, it’s possible for those three dots to be in any order on the line.

In some countries, younger people are more likely than older people to have an unfavorable view of Israel. This is particularly the case in the high-income countries surveyed: Australia, Canada, France, Poland and South Korea and the U.S. In fact, the U.S. has one of the largest age gaps in views of Israel.

Young people don’t vote, unfortunately they don’t show this graph on the article

Netanyahu was always unpopular both in Israel and outside Israel.

Opinions across the world started shifting after he renewed efforts to occupy most of Gaza. Hamas is a terrorist organization and everybody acknowledges that, but they’re defeated at this point. Israel has decisively won this war months ago. They get to have virtually any of their demands met with any ceasefire deal they agree to from getting back the rest of the hostages to having access to the Philadelphi corridor to expelling Hamas from Gaza.

There was a deal a couple of months ago that they agreed to and everybody thought this war was finally coming to an end. Fighting stopped, hostages were being released, and everybody acknowledged that Israel won. People were excited that war was finally coming to an end and people were debating what a post Hamas Gaza should look like and how reconstruction should be handled. However, Netanyahu single-handedly scrapped this deal and restarted the war for no reason.

Now, people are just tired of him and the war. Not just around the world, but also in Israel. A whooping 70% of Israelis have an unfavorable view of him and his government. Israel won’t be taken seriously again until he’s removed from power, and everybody wants him out. However, he knows that he’s going to get his ass thrown in jail the moment this war is over and so he’s never going to end it.

No one in power cares what average people think … even if it is an overwhelming majority of the population

All these people in power care about is what rich wealthy people think and what corporate leaders and investors think

It’s a world run on money … not on democratic consensus.

      Not completely.

It’s also that this data is incomplete and it’s a bad idea to draw all your conclusions from it.

For example, in the US, the Jewish voting bloc is very real, substantial, and influential. Compare that to the percentage of nonvoters or even just non political people who have a negative opinion of Israel.

And I’d bet that a significant portion of that voting block also does not have a favourable view of israel, so uh what? Someone being jewish doesn’t mean they automatically agree with israels actions, unlike what israeli propaganda would like you to believe.

I agree with you. I bet a portion of Jewish people also have an unfavorable view of Israel right now.

But it’s not the same as saying those people would agree to a candidate that says they would cut support to Israel or pledge their support for Palestine. It’s a spectrum, not either or.

It’s not suspicious that the two Muslim majority countries on the list (Turkiye and Indonesia) have the highest numbers.

They are more likely to view Muslims as people.

If you’re not othering and demonizing people it’s much easier to notice when someone is genociding them.

turkey has a muslm population so as with most muslim populations they were aware of Israel’s atrocities before oct7.

turkey in particular has a gripe with Israel as well, as they have tried before what Greta Thunberg is trying to do right now, to break the blockade with an aid ship by joining a flotilla, to which Israel promptly sent commandos and killed 10 activists on the ship. it’s surprising the number isn’t 100%, considering.

of course no one else really gave a shit and the us/eu kept sucking Israel’s dick until they recently got too comfortable killing their people as well. but hey, better late than never.

The Nigerian understanding of religion is fascinating. They just take what they need from any place they want. In the western world most people stick with the faith they were born in, or maybe switch once or twice in their lifetime. In Nigeria it’s common to switch very frequently, always taking the parts they like best and leaving behind the rest.

It’s a very open and interesting way to look at things, not so much tied to their own personal identity (“I am protestant, so I must hate catholics” as it used to be common in the west), but instead they build their own faith from all the best sources they can find.

Nothing in that explains why the majority of the population would have favourable views of Israel. There are several things that would appear to support the opposite actually, such as the Nigerian government arresting and deporting the Israeli film crew.
