Grassley said the language he heard at Wednesday’s town hall was “stronger” than what he’s seen elsewhere.

“You’ll see that people have very strong feelings. You heard me also say in the beginning that a lot of us have been advised not to have these town meetings because it gives a forum for people to exert disagreement,” Grassley says. “Sometimes very strong disagreement with what’s going on in Washington.”

Chuck Grassley last won his Senate election in 2022, and is not due for re-election until 2028.

The margin was 56.0% to 43.8%; so I’m pretty sure he’s expecting to weather the current storm of protest and wait for it to die down - and see what’s going to happen come the 2028 Presidential election cycle, namely if Trump is going to try and run again somehow.

If he were to go against Trump’s policies now, it just puts him in the crosshairs of the MAGA crowd and Elon’s dark-money.

Charles Grassley is slimy, but is also currently 91. He will be 95 is 2028, and is rapidly hitting “Diane Feinstein” levels of politics. He’s not particularly afraid of his constituents, but he’s a reliable tool for the modern GOP and can be counted on to only act concerned but vote the line.
