I called to cancel my red card and the guy asked why so I said it was due to their new DEI policies, or lack thereof, and he said, “WELL, wish there was something we could do to keep you but there’s not so the account will be closed. Thanks for calling!” And then basically hung up on me. It definitely made me feel like the adult in the relationship.
I would’ve thought that if his tone wasn’t angry, but dude sounded pissed, and it was a very abrupt change when I said why. I’m sure I’m not the first or only person to cancel for that reason but I didn’t get “secretly agrees” vibes.
If they were in the retention department, it might have been because they knew there was nothing they could say to keep you. It reflects badly on them when they can’t “save” a customer.
Yeah it’s possible they had heard that before, and tried their usual extra bonus whatever to keep them, and then got an earful from those callers. So they are both unhappy about it (because they probably get dinged for not being able to keep customers) but they know they can’t convince you and so just want to get off the call as soon as possible.
Another possibility, but perhaps unlikely. It could be they silently agreed with you and didn’t take the normal, “please stay” tactics of offering you extras, etc.
Those calls may be monitored and that was the least they could do to keep their job.

They sound like they tacitly agree with you if that was their exact wording.
I mean that’s kinda what I’d have heard too…

Or, you know, it’s just what it is: acceptance.
Ok, then, that’s that. Tell all of your friends that there is now a rainbow target on Target.
Let’s see what we can do to that stock price.
As they say, the ax forgets but the tree remembers.
