Will talk about Linux, plants, space, retro games, and anything else I find interesting.
Some Lemmy instances work. Others don’t. Piefed and kbin/kbin work well though.
Excellent instance!
Veronica explains is one channel I always enjoys (if you like Linux).
Interesting! Is this over a Git issue somewhere? That could explain quite a bit.
No idea honestly. If anyone knows, let us know! I dont think its necessarily a bad thing, If their crawler was being too aggressive, then it can accidentally DDOS smaller servers. Im hoping that is what they are doing and respecting the robot.txt that some sites have.
This looks more accurate than fedidb TBH. The initial serge from reddit back in 2023. The slow fall of active members. I personally think the reason the number of users drops so much is because certain instances turn off the ability for outside crawlers to get their user info.
To instance owners (like myself) looking to be added:
This has helped with my channels discoverability. Im still not seeing my videos on the search, even directly searching for the title of the videos, but im hoping that changes when the index gets updated.
FreshRSS is nice. You can hook into any client you want on android/ios/etc… or use theirs. Reminds me of google reader and some others. This is what it looks like:
I have mine selfhosted. Pretty easy on yunohost, docker, or other sites. Looks like they have a couple of servers out there if you dont want to self host: https://freshrss.org/cloud-providers.html
Imagine getting a job like this and now half the nation knows your name…thats terrifying. being an intern may mean you have no idea of the true scope of what they are asking you to do.
Thanks, I tried to add as much as I could from that community. Also added it in the sidebar!
I’ve always liked riscv. Just the idea of literally everything on the device being open source is a fun idea. Manuals to everything.
With Linux any old computer from yesteryear can become a quick server. That’s what I do, just make sure you got backups.
Excellent. I hope we will all enjoy it. Teddy is a good boy :)
Thanks!!
I created [email protected] in case anyone finds channels, videos, ect that they like.
We can help with the discovery!
Yeah the search is the worst part. As others have said the technology is there, we just need a better search.
The other issue is Lemmy (and perhaps other platforms) has issues with Peertube channels. I can’t direct link Peertube for activityhub posts. Lemmy is a no go. [email protected] Piefed for example works: https://piefed.social/c/[email protected]
I host one and don’t plan on taking it down anytime soon! If anyone likes dog videos: @[email protected]
He’s a good boy.
There’s dozens of us!

Its interesting that on lemmy almost everyone gets some kind of upvote/downvote (interaction) whereas on reddit and other sites, you either get viral success or…nothing. No upvotes/downvotes no interactions. My theory is the algorithm + number of people de-humanizes the act of communication in such large communities.
It would be nice if we can just click subscribe. I know mastodon lets you do something similar within other mastodon instances. What I wouldn’t give for a better user experience…
