Ich finde, was dieser Bewertung (nur 7 % machen jedes Jahr machen ein FSJ) immer außer Acht gelassen wird, ist der wirtschaftliches Aspekt: Ein FSJ muss man sich leisten können.

Der Betrieb, für den ich arbeite, beschäftigt FSJler:innen und wir zahlen denen pro Monat ca. 550 € Taschengeld + bei eigener Wohnung ca. 160 € Mietkostenzuschuss, die ja eher eine nette Geste sind, statt die Miete zu bezahlen.

Die jungen Menschen, die sich für uns engagieren, denken dabei ganz oft sehr pragmatisch über das FSJ nach und häufig sind es Leute, die dieses Jahr keinen Ausbildungsplatz gefunden haben, die Schulpflicht noch nicht erfüllt haben und ansonsten ein Jahr in einer Ausbildungsvorbereitung säßen. Eine andere Gruppe nutzt das FSJ als Ausbildungsorientierung. Kaum einer gibt an, das FSJ aus ehrentamlichen Beweggründen zu machen.

Ich finde das auch total legitim und das zeigt, dass unsere Freiwilligen mehr als genug materiellen Struggle haben und sich in der Regel nicht den Luxus haben, einfach so eine Ehrenrunde zur Persönlichkeitsentwicklung und um der Gesellschaft etwas zurück zu geben, zu drehen.

Wenn man das verstanden hat, muss man zum Schluss kommen, dass das FSJ finanziell attraktiver werden muss (jedes Ausbildungsgehalt bietet mehr) und am besten noch andere Vorteile für sei Freiwilligen bieten muss, die für sie direkt verwertbar sind (verpflichtende Ausbildungsvorbereitung in den Seminaren?).

Wouldn’t it be great if Rheinmetall were socialized and its profits went to the public instead of shareholders?

People are looking for an enemy image onto which they can project their frustration, and they are not willing to target the wealthy class because they irrationally hope to belong to it someday. Instead, they direct their frustration against the poorer and weaker, as it is much easier to distinguish oneself from a group that one definitely does not want to belong to.

I don’t know if I’d go so far as to say it’s by design, but I definitely share your observation that capitalism doesn’t leave much time and energy you would need to pursue hobbies, and it’s way easier to get a dopamine high by consuming.

Even if this phenomenon is not by design, it is definitely synergizing very well with capitalism, and therefore there are people who exploit it and, in turn, support capitalism with their actions.

It is actually a depressing example of Niklas Luhmann’s systems theory, which states that every system inherently tends to stabilize itself.

How does it compare to Duplicati?

Reading actual books (on paper!) in the bathtub is what I’ll never get: How do you flip pages? Do you dry your hands for each page or do you just live with soggy pages? Also the humidity in general is bad for your books… That’s why e-readers are so awesome.

That footpath is absolutely gorgeous! I envy you! I have a garden too but with three little kids too little time and money to really care for it and make some substantial changes. But I have some raised garden beds which is nice.
