  • If the Democrats want my vote they are more than welcome to adopt a thing or two from the third parties that split their vote. How else would I communicate my size as a voter bloc and the specific policies we support, and how could I have any sway in any direction if my vote is to be taken for granted?

They seem to understand this when it comes to Republicans… I wonder why it never goes the other way. Seems that kind of strategy would be much more effective as a viable party in winning voters from a non-viable party, and much easier to triangulate, no?

  • The boat is already full of holes, so who put them there? Why didn’t they spend the last 4 years patching them, why haven’t they thrown the other guy off the boat already, and why have they adopted his boat-cutting rhetoric? Why do you have to deny the democrat’s agency in this situation in order to make your point? Their platform is not immutable, it can and should change to one that captures more voters, and the fact it hasn’t at such a supposedly critical point with such loud opposition should be a clear message to you: either this election isn’t as important as they say it is, or they think they can leave us behind and we will vote for them anyways.

This does not bode well for your future protests, which by the way have already been happening on college campuses and have been met with police violence, uncontested smearing in the media, and not even the barest minimum of defense or policy change from your candidate and current vice president.

You can sit here and try to convince me and the other guy all you want but ultimately we snd the rest of lemmy are a drop in an ocean. Nothing will change unless there’s a change in strategy at the top. Their strategy is actively working against your efforts to convince us and yet they urge you to believe that Trump is the most dangerous man on the planet and that they fear for the country if he wins.

If this is true, then why aren’t they running a more dynamic and broad-reaching campaign and making real compromises with voters that would split their vote if they broke away? Do you not see the glaring contradiction in their actions vs their words? Is that really a strategy you want to endorse? To promote fear instead of democracy?

Do you not see the value in demonstrating that their losing strategy is, in fact, a losing strategy? How it does you a disservice to cave so easily - to genocide, I might add - without first making demands? What should motivate them to meet your demands if you’re just going to vote for them anyways and you never exercise any of your bargaining power to make them sweat?

  • All of that text and you didn’t address a single thing that I said.

You don’t need to explain your line of thinking to me. I’ve been beaten over the head with it. I used to have the same line of thinking. It does not hold up to reasoned criticism and it simply is not possible to defend at this moment without minimizing genocide. Try it. Try having this conversation with someone that is watching their loved ones be murdered indiscriminately by our tax dollars. Go tell them how your chosen social issue is more important than Palestinian lives, that it justifies supporting with your vote and tax dollars a country that is bombing and starving living human beings, who are mostly children, and see if you feel so righteous at the end of it.

The Democrats do not care about any of your issues. They care about winning, and they care about fundraising. When their fundraising is actively threatened by your issues, the only way to get them to move on anything is to threaten their ability to win elections. Look: Biden just fucking did it, a legitimate threat to cut off aid (still only a threat but it’s a start), and I guarantee you it would not have happened if this election was smooth sailing for Kamala. No thanks to you and all of you screeching about the end of the world if Trump wins.

Both of your cups are poisoned, so call their bluff. Refuse to drink the poison and demand an option without poison. The cups did not just materialize there as immutable objects, they were put there by politicians that need us more than we need them and have the power to change what goes in the cup. Do not for a second let them deceive you into thinking otherwise.

If they see they cannot win without you, they will move mountains to come meet you. Lesser evil voting does not allow for that exchange to happen. In fact it actively undermines it. That is how we got here, that is how we keep ratcheting to the right. Not any of your bullshit about unelected judges.

  • The right already has everything they need for “damning the whole country” with or without Trump - Roe V. Wade being overturned, all this trans panic bullshit, immigration suddenly being everyone’s uncle’s top issue, utter climate inaction, etc. - it’s all happening under Biden’s administration. What makes you think the Democrats are suddenly going to turn heel and do something about it? If they had any interest in doing anything about it, why wouldn’t they be running on that? If we can’t move them on the highest crime against humanity - genocide - by threatening their power in choosing not to support their campaign, what makes you think you’ll be able to move them on anything else by protesting in ways that they can easily ignore and let their opposition stamp down with police response and media circus, just as long as you come back to vote for them in 4 years?

What makes you think your protests won’t just end up like BLM, with the media smearing you and cops descending upon you with military vehicles, riot shields, and rubber bullets as soon as the protests become disruptive; as democrats stand by and grand stand out of one side of their mouth while out of the other they are refusing to defend you and going so far in the opposite direction of answering your demands that they put the very kind of person you’re protesting against - a cop in this case - up for the highest offices in the land?

Neither of them is going to save gaza, and neither of them is going to save us either. One of them is just more annoying than the other and I personally am going to need a much more compelling reason to vote Democrat than that. By voting third party I am showing them that I am engaged in politics and my vote is on the table but only if they come and meet me where I am, as I have hit a wall in what I’m willing to support. They will either get the message and adopt more popular policy - realizing that the right will never trade Republicans for Republicans-lite and they need the left to win - or they will keep disengaging their base from their party and have a much harder time winning elections. That’s their choice to make, not ours.

  • No shit, which is why the Democrats should stop trying to win over those voters and take a stand against genocide instead of pussyfooting around the issue. You can convince every last soul that reads this thread that Trump is going to personally murder every remaining Palestinian, and yes, shame, every last voter you meet for disagreeing with you, and it will blow away like a fart in the wind.

You and I are only individuals, and lemmy is a very small platform. We cannot change things systemically from here no matter how much we shout and argue past each other.

The only thing that can change the outcome is changing the talking points and policy at the top, because the strategy they’re going with now is actively damaging to their campaign and working against your efforts. The undecided voters are doing her a courtesy by letting her know before election day where their convictions lie so she can meet them where they are. If she refuses to heed that warning, then that is on her.

  • Harris seriously needs to fire her campaign advisors donors.

She can’t fire them because she works for them.

don’t know why Harris is running such a stupid campaign or why she just doesn’t do the really easy thing that will absolutely guarantee that she easily wins the white house.

It doesn’t make sense because you’re leaving out half of the equation: money.

There are lots of issues like this that poll overwhelmingly in the opposite direction that Democrats keep moving towards.

They only need 50% +1 of the EC delegates to win the election, anything more eats into their ability to fundraise, as what’s good for everyday Americans is bad for capitalists and ideologues. Pandering to voters is good but if they can get you in the booth on the threat of Trump alone then even better. That frees them up to fuck around and do whatever gets the most money out of their donors.

  • Kamala came out and announced a key change to the relationship with Israel, like withholding military aid, would her numbers improve or get worse?

13% of Democratic voters support more weapons for Israel. If Kamala loses 13% of Democrats, or even a quarter of that number, this election is over.

You can always just shame them into voting for Kamala, like the demonstrably larger other side of the argument is being shamed now, since you guys seem to think that’s the strategy to beat them all.
