Afaik there is no such mechanic in the game. Likely you just had bad luck

When I started playing my village maps I would play on (community) builder, but the raids would get pretty big because of colonist wealth. I’d just draft all colonists,form a blob and march straight into the raid. Hence my gigantic hospitals.

Not sure if it fits your description but the first one that pops up in my mind is Starbound

It’s always good to have the game running at 900tps and then hear a very large explosion while watching someone hunting and then move back to see your colony is no longer a thing

Are the animals able to graze? If not they’ll eat your meals

The cube is a fun event

Do they use a new sub-grid? Whatever they did, future mods will be able to make use of it
