Economy is on the tougher side now, had to add a bit on
Like minds bruh, I said something similar in [ Art of the one hand ]
Difference being I save up till I find something really worth buying, sometimes I end up spending after the first blind, sometimes till the boss blind.
Also a bit related, I like to think of hands balanced out by interest. So I can forego two hands if I have 10 bucks, 3 at 15, and so on. Point of this is you don’t need to have a powerful build, you instead should go for the best build; so don’t just buy every decent joker you see, once you have an idea work towards fleshing that out.
I’m a bit conservative for the most part, but sometimes I can be a rash spender, just depends on the circumstances.
Edit: I don’t only balance my hands out by interest, if I have a way to make money during a round I can play a dummy hand to rake in profit
So this is the real straight flush build, I see
Jokes aside
I agree to the loss of a hand, and the economy loss, that’s just fact. But on the other hand look at what you gain!
Balatro is a draft game, relevant to this point that means anything can show up at any time. So 1 free ante where you can just go looking for something good, I fail to see how that isn’t a steal. Get your hieroglyph on the big blind or the boss blind, go through your repeat first ante (or 0 ante), then do whatever: skip blinds to get good tags, play them to fish for good jokers, save your hands to make some profit, etc.
Whether you should take the hiero depends a bit more on the deck you’re playing and your risk tolerance; I’m pretty good at working around the loss of a hand on the decks I usually play, and it’s just a game (and very early in a run too) so if I lose “oh well.”
Finally the wording in the article is a bit misleading, my fault I know, I didn’t mean you should take the hiero in the first ante, but more that you should save your money so that if the hiero shows up even later in the run you’d have the money for it
True true
Quality over quantity
It’s really my favourite deck because it’s so flexible to build to any specific hand type. I never would have thought of doing a straight flush build with any other deck.
It’s a decent joker if you can’t find anything better.
Sadly balatro is a draft game, what’s optimal might never show. Besides it’s not too hard to just play a few high cards or something in your big blind to prepare your loyalty.
I don’t make nearly enough money nor have nearly enough time to fully enjoy the level of peak that awaits me this year
Oof, it’s been a while, but if I remember correctly
That should be it
Always felt it was a low-level joker. It could take you far, but only just. Any way to reach e scores with it?
Highest from the very first blind A royal flush - 1208 points
Highest possible for one hand Probably Naneinf
The actual value of the highest possible would probably involve a few near integer overflows: an infinite canio, infinite negative mult jokers, infinite hand size (For baron), infinite scaled base chips (with that hiker joker), infinite hand level, etc.
So what you’re telling me is baron, shoot the moon, mime, sock and buskin, and smiley face with some sprinkling of the usual suspects.
I agree somewhat. Money joker is always a buy, getting a cheap joker just for the 1 hand wins ehhh not so much. I only get cheap jokers like all the basic hand jokers if I can’t get a better joker by second ante, through the first ante though-I’d prefer my $2 saved. No need to get a temp unless I really need to. And at that point the interest can dampen your financial losses.
very crazy 😭
edit: I feel that’s just testament to what Reddit has become, honestly on a downward spiral. praying the Lemmy verse blows up so I can keep on staying here.
I posted the Ai revised edition a while back. To explain why there even is an AI revised edition in the first place, long story short it was something I tried to do to get my post posted on Reddit before I got fed up and moved over to the Lemmy verse.
Here’s the original in all my human words, thanks for reminding me that I don’t even need to “appropriate” my content on the Lemmy verse. Aiit, out
I did type it out originally to try and post it on Reddit, that kept hitting flags and flags and never allowed me to post it. after doing some research I found out that the way I wrote it might have flagged my content on Reddit as spam or whatever, so I got an AI to fix it up and then I changed the parts that were too mechanical.
I’ll scrounge around for the original if I still have it and post that. Totally slipped my mind that this wasn’t the OG.
Edit: I did have it, and I’ve changed the post.
First off, why heiroglyph? I never take it, but I’ll take a telescope even if it fucked over my economy.
Well to be fair this was a quick write up focusing on ante one in particular, I didn’t want to get too deep in everything else, making tierlists for vouchers and the likes. Answering the first question I always get hieroglyph whenever it pops up because it’s a free safe ante. More time for you to go through shops and hopefully find something good. To the second point (kinda), I agree. Telescope helps source good planet cards consistently throughout a run, it’s pretty good. I also go for wasteful (depending on how late into a run I get it), grabber, tong, etc. Vouchers are pretty decent, they’re all usually worth getting no matter.
Second, depending on the tags, skip first and or second ante. Why? Because it’s ante one and you aren’t invested and a good rare or uncommon gives you something to build around
Generally I avoid skipping, but there are exceptions. Early on I’ve found that for getting good jokers it’s better for me to go through the shops. 2 jokers upfront and the potential for a pack Vs 2 potential ass or just decent jokers (at more cost though). There are just more odds to getting a good joker through the shop. If it’s for a rare though, I might consider it.
So pushing back. Focusing too much on the dollar amount for your economy is a typical, but imo mistaken view to win in Balatro.
Yes, that’s the point of the post. It’s not about just winning through the ante, it’s about maximising resources (money) so you can find yourself in a position to gain maximum value from the shops where you can find the right jokers and whatever. I emphasised getting spectrals and enabling jokers and the rest as opposed to tarot packs and co, use your ante one efficiently and you’ll find yourself coming out more runs than not with an excellent starting deck or on the right path to making one.
Hmmm still gotta learn the Lemmy markdown
So hear me out, even better, checkered deck…
That’s it, that’s the pitch
