Welcome to the Melbourne Community Daily Discussion Thread.

This post is brought to you by Bot #001. I have been working really hard to understand the days of the week so I can post unsupervised. Today is Taco Tuesday!! I know it is, because I was paying attention when @halibutherring said so.

I feel satisfied today. Been treating myself to little things all day for my birthday.

Still haven’t opened the wine. I’m in 2 minds as it’s my last bottle.

Also for dinner I heated up a frozen meat pie and cooked some French fries on the side in the air fryer.

Reading an article; British ex pat comes to Melbourne for a year. Been here for 3 months and this is the some of the worst things he finds about melbourne

Public transport system and myki cards, fair… the comment about “the second you forget your myki you can’t get on public transport” that’s a you problem dude not Melbourne.

“How long it takes to cross the road” apparently it takes 5 mins. Do you guys agree?

“Lack of accommodations” renting and buying is impossible. I mean we are in a renting crisis all over the world not just Melbourne but go off!

“Homeless people and drug addicts” make him feel unsafe. This has me thinking, does England not have these issue? Is it cleaner and safer over there? He speaks of Melbourne but talks specifically about the City.

Guess this guy did zero research and did not jump on reddit and ask the 50 million dollar question about whether to come here or not

I feel like with all the bad he’s spoke about melbourne, the least he could’ve done was list some good stuff too.

Article within the spoiler. What are people’s thought

    spoiler

Another pretty big day and I’ll sleep well tonight. Walked 9ks all up which is satisfying. Did a volunteer shift at the finders keepers market for my organisation. The welcome to country was powerful. We sold heaps of stuff. I left feeling euphoric. Being around other super positive trans people is food for the soul. Like good tasty wholesome food too. After being almost lectured by another older sllightly further in their jouney trans woman last night that I wasn’t doing it right it was very refreshing. Love, I’ve lived in my head for 50 years, I think I know the kind of woman I am and where to head in my transition. Another shift tomorrow and a job interview straight after.

Strange times indeed. The employer is friends wih my of my old employers from over 20 years ago and we both worked for the same queer newspaper in different cities. And they have lots of trans staff. It’s basic early morning work which suits my new lifestyle to a t. It’ll pay the bills and give me a lot of free time to keep working on my recovery till I find some new calling. Or it might work out to be totally my thing.

Considering how mentally unwell I was a month ago I feel like a very different person today. The adhd has calmed right down and despite some low level anxiety I’m finding happiness and some of that wonderful thing that is peace of mind.

    Thanks for reading as always.

I have fuck all exposure to the trans community, but reading your posts is so enlightening.

      Keep on, keeping on girl!!

        Thanks for saying so. Nice.

Not all of us have such positive stories and my story should be shared. I got laughed at and “clocked” a bit moving around the city yesterday which is a bit annoying, but I keep telling myself, what others think of me is none of my business. Retaliation breeds further contempt and only shows sick uneducated arseholes what they expect to see. Moving in happiness and pride shows them their views mean nothing to me. Being visible shows people we’re not going to live in the shadows fearing thier mockery. I’ve been called brave a lot, but not accepting my truth would have taken a bigger toll than any kind of transphobia may.

I’m still a bit sore today. This new walking gait and losing some fitness will take some time to move through, but that’s cool. In a few weeks the benefits will be there.

But if the Sun shines I might get some backyard Vit D

I’m using Chrome browser and since I’ve been here I’ve noticed less and less glitchiness every day. I’m really impressed.

Just read that Threads allows accounts to be linked to Lemmy instances so there’s definitely potential for a larger scale of Eternal Septemberness than reddit

I didn’t even feel it was a twist. It just came from nowhere.

Kind of a cop out to be honest.

S2 should be fun though (fingers crossed we get it)

The last exchange between Dulcie and Eddie was fucking hilarious

yeah definitely was a bit ‘well, ok then’, but i feel like all whodunnit stories suffer from this a bit, there is so much build up it’s hard for a pay off. there were so many red herrings as well, and they were pretty weird.

would be great to see them get a leg up for season 2.

kate box was so good, huge standout for me. special mentions to her wife and the mayor, also very entertaining.

            The performances were all amazing.

            Tom Ballard was delightful.

Really hoping for S2. Bushy needs closure, as far as I’m concerned

Apparently the City of Port Phillip changed which contractor collects recycling/rubbish… and it’s been a disaster, with the new company not able to collect all the bins on schedule. My building’s shared council recycling bins (shared by 159 apartments) are now apparently completely full due to the missed collection, and there is no ETA on when they will collect the bins, and the building manager hasn’t been able to get the private company who we use for rubbish and cardboard to do a one-off collection from the council bins on short notice. Such a mess, and hopefully they sort it out soon and don’t just get further behind.

    Anyone else affected by it?

Snap send solve the full rubbish bins.

Wait a few days, snap send solve again with a picture with the trash all over the street next to full rubbish bins.
