I like the castle one. I think it has a picture of a dude pooping into a long chute that ejects the excrement outside the castle wall.
I remember that picture too!
You and me bud, kindred spirits.
This poop chute is the only thing I remember about these books
It’s the only thing you need to remember
Wasn’t that Stephen Biesty’s Castle book?
Maybe it was. I just wish I had a castle with a poop chute in it :(
As a poor kid in latinamerica, without access to D&D manuals, those where my home mande RPG manuals. Everything hit with a d6 also because other kind of die where out of reach.
I’m not sure if these are widely known, but I am a big fan of Stephen Biesty’s cross section books. I borrowed those from the library all the time. And bought them as an adult! They’re fun reads and very informative. Everyone who picks one up will end up smiling when they read them.
This was also my jam as a kid when visiting the public library. The castle book and Incredible Cross-Sections really blew my mind as a kid.
That one in particular was awesome! I should pick up the modern version of that one of these days.
They were widely known, at least in my family. My brother and I went nuts for those books. The castle one even showed the facilities, naked asses and all. Funny shit when you’re 10.
Biesty includes a pooping figure in literally every drawing where a bathroom can feasibly be accommodated. Sometimes several. It’s basically his signature move.
Not that I would do anything different mind you. Even adult me always looks for the Signature Pooper.
The anatomy book is actually how I learned how procreation worked.
I literally have the Gem Stones one near me on my bed right now. They really are the best.
Rocks and Minerals were my jam. Loved that book.
DK were (and are?) great

The Time & Space one is certainly mind blowing for my junior high school self.
Popular Mechanics where they’d do something like this with a sub, harrier jet, bullet train, etc
I think I had the “Human Body” one and a couple others. Cool books.
Is there a lot of nostalgia for these? I have the castle one, but it just sort of appeared in my bookshelf one day.
AND. THEIR. VIDEOS!
Just got ran over by the nostalgia truck. Damn. That was cool feeling. I think the castle one was my favorite.
Dinosaurs and castles. Honestly, anything with history was probably high on the list. I was already a big history dork from basically the time I could read.
Astronomy, I believe it was called, is my favorite.
I loved looking at the illustrations in those and coming up with stories about them in my head
