About the only way we’re going to actually have a democracy is if they consistently lose elections. That’s going to mean volunteering, donating, and actually turning out to vote
I mean, you both have something akin to a point.
Yes, establishment democrats are happy to benefit from the “but the other guys are evil!” rhetoric. Both sides do, actually. We have two political parties that coexist in a broken system. They feed each other and rely on each other to be the “other” for their own power and monetary gain.
However, there is a time and place where this matters enough to bring into a conversation. In certain times and places, like this one, pointing it out when we are staring down the barrel of a vindictive narcissist wannabe dictator and a party full of sycophants that are literally sounding the call to usher literal fascism through the door because they can’t win even after rigging the system to benefit their fringe beliefs serves only those people who rely on suppressed voter turnout (hint: it’s those fascists).
You’re not wrong. The system sucks. It’s been broken for a long time. But you’re not advocating for a better system right now. You’re literally making calls to aid the people hoping to destroy it further and replace it with a white, christian ethnostate.
Do you see the difference? If this were a conversation about the system being fucked, yeah, that’s where you talk about it. But when the topic at hand is “group of politicians aiming to install fascism in next election,” the answer can’t be “dems old.” Anyone who is anti-fascist would back any horse to evade fascism.
Again, that answer sucks. We all know it sucks. But that’s not the question right now. The question is “how do we keep this fascist and his fascist cronies away from the levers of power?”
I appreciate the well thought out words! I always welcome different perspectives!
Its perspectives also. Your perspective seems that destruction is not needed for people to rebuild. Your perspective seems humans in their infinite nature don’t end up in a corner sometimes like a fallen top and need to be completely broken and rebuilt.
I see no way for people to actually give a fuck anymore, this discourse we are having is very very slow shift, if you and I could have this conversations 1 million times on a million subs we might be able to shift hundred of thousands of view points over many years (in my perspective obviously). What we are doing right now with typing on small echo chambers is like masturbation, it feels good to do it while you are doing it but it didn’t really change anything. Did your opinion change from my perspective or did you view it as a chance to flex your thinking muscles to support what you already think? Ask yourself honestly, am I forming or galvanizing an opinion when reading and replying to comments?
I only honestly trust a few super calm ‘guru’ type leaders who have mastered their peaceful minds and live a life of minimal consumption to lead or guide me. Otherwise I only see ravenous sentience that is wildly trying to comfort its ego with culture and laws to maintain its lifestyle of consumption.
So I say let this shit hole burn till enough missed meals happen actual change that history has shown me is possible can actually happen. I know it won’t be nice and will cause suffering but the point of life isn’t to avoid these things, its to reflect your character and grow in these times.
I see humans as a spire that will collapse but only on the ground of older spires, eventually there won’t be room for collapse and than we will no longer need destruction in our society. Maybe to quote Farenheit 454 we finnaly “dig a hole big enough to bury war in it once and forever”.
When I take my viewpoints to liberals and democrats they call me an idealist and ignore me, a naive child not understand “how the world works”, they won’t stop buying iPhones even if they are made with human suffering in a different land, they won’t leave the states that are making their lives tougher, they won’t cancel amazon prime even after seeing the boat that dick bag bought with our value he extracted. I feel destruction is needed for new growth, its all I see reflected in nature with fires and floods. My ancestors that came over on the mayflower destroyed all of their old life to create new life here (granted they ended up killing native life and stealing and killing African life, Americans in general that is).
You and I won’t change shit. The people in power have had many generations to build and protect their wealth and power in a system and can stay one step ahead using that system.
We’ve been literally staring down doom for my whole life with our political parities. That is my perspective, you see doom now I have always seen it, and I’m tired of looking at doom vs this shit. I can’t get the common person to rally with me while they have running water and food and other creature comforts, once people are desperate they’ll be able to rally and change. MLK said the arc of humanity is long but bends towards justice, I say culture is trying to unbend that arc so I call for its destruction so we can resume our path to actual justice.
