For example, a band like Joy Division. Two masterpiece albums in the form of Unknown Pleasures and Closer, and the untimely death of Ian Curtis cut it all short. They were even heading into the direction that New Order eventually went in, and it would have been interesting to see what Ian Curtis would have done if they fully made the leap into electronic music while he was still alive.

Linkin Park. Even though they had several great years, it was cut short by the death of their lead singer, Chester Bennington in 2017.

I understood the question, which was, " What’s a band that you like that was gone way too soon?" For me, and in my opinion, Linkin Park was a band that I really liked and they were gone way too soon, at least for me. I understand that they were around for about 20 years and had a great career. However, the lead singer, Chester Bennington, was only 41 years old at the time of his death, and they could have continued on for many, many more years, which would have been great. So considering that they could have had at least another 20 more years left, I don’t see that me saying that it was “cut short” is incorrect.
