Aside from all the other issues with this, $3 a meal per person is $270-$280 per person per month on food. Many people can’t afford that anyway.

$300-350 per month per person. This is about $100 more per person per month than we were paying during covid

$3/meal also costs more than what food assistance provides

Counting food only, probably $15 a day, without foil, paper towels, dish soap, only food, but that’s because since it is winter, I tend to stew a little meat (usually chicken) and/or veggies on Sunday and eat that once or twice a day for a week, along with some rice or toast, and only eat a piece of fruit or some trail mix when I work mornings. My biggest expense is 1-2 cups of decent, supposedly ethically sourced, organic coffee, daily, and the occasional piece of salmon or canned tuna.
