I wouldn’t exactly call lemmy.ml a far left server. They’re more tankies, which is more defined by the philosophy of “America Bad, so their rivals must be Good”.
As a US citizen, the country has a lot of problems (especially with the current administration) but Putin and Jinping are still authoritarian despots.
If marxism-leninism or maoism aren’t far left, what IS? The word “tankie” references the violent and imperialist oppression of opposition by communist countries like the USSR and PRC, and I don’t get the impression that lemmy.ml users don’t consider themselves this flavor of leftist. Or is this just a “no true scotsman” discussion?
What you’re missing is that the tankies on .ml are just taking the name of marxism-leninism. The philosophy is diametrically opposed to the modern CCP (which is now Capitalist) and Putin’s Russia (which is Fascist). And note that I pointed out that tankies support modern China and Russia.
This is similar to how Stalin’s Soviet Union held very few similarities to what Karl Marx described despite referring to utself as Communist
Tankies don’t only support modern fascist Russia, they also support Stalin and Mao. In fact, pick a brutal dictator, and they likely have full support. Pick any American sin (and there are many) that they decry and you’ll find them cheering and supporting and rationalizing a non-American committing that sin but worse.
