The nurses’ demands vary by hospital, but the major issues include staffing levels and workplace safety. The union says hospitals have given nurses unmanageable workloads.
Nurses also want better security measures in the workplace, citing incidents like a an incident last week, when a man with a sharp object barricaded himself in a Brooklyn hospital room and was then killed by police.
The union also wants limitations on hospitals’ use of artificial intelligence.

Tell me about it. Around here the end of the pandemic coincided with a regime change from social-democrat to conservative-far-right. Immediately we were told that the good times are over now and we have to tighten our belts. We were stumped: what, tighten them even more? It’s not like we were overpaid in the past decades. And how was working through the pandemic “the good times”?

Passion professions continue to get screwed under capitalism. If you go into a job looking to help people, the system knows it can screw you over. Nurses, teachers, public defenders, etc. You go into it for a reason other than money, you’ll get shafted.
