From L Jordan Captures

Starting the New Year off right with one of the most beautiful creatures I have ever been able to photograph. This beautiful female snowy owl was quite active today between hunts.

Snowy owls typically live in the Arctic, but are known to migrate south during what’s known as an irruption. The exact reason for Snowy irruptions isn’t fully known but usually it’s attributed to a good breeding season, leading to food scarcity, forcing the birds to travel to locate better hunting grounds.

This leads to the occasional appearance along Maine’s coasts, and the opportunity to get pictures like this. I hope that everyone has a great weekend and enjoy this beautiful lady!
