it certainly doesn’t seem like a vote is suddenly going to turn back all of the chaos
Why not? It’s hard to know exactly what the state of things really is, but to me the best outcome would be that the current regime is removed through an election and their attempts to weasel out of it fail, like last time. Isn’t avoiding this the whole reason they are trying to escalate?
It kinda depends on who replaces the regime, doesn’t it? We already replaced Trump once and watched the Democrats completely fall short of reforming ICE or removing the fascists from their ranks. (all of them really). In fact, we increased funding for ICE significantly under Biden.
Establishment Democrats will fail again. It’s what they are there to do. If we somehow manage to elect progressives that’s another story.
In terms of a lasting fix, yeah, you would need people willing to make big reforms, especially reforms constraining executive power. But I think nearly any replacement would de-escalate the violence and greatly improve the chances of survival for the US republic, since it is actively being trashed right now.
I heard the same in 2020. It didn’t work out that way. Establishment Democrats created MAGA and Trump just adopted them. The fascism keeps growing when establishment Democrats are in power, and even accelerates. It just does it beneath the surface to become evident later.
We can’t tread water anymore. 2028 will be sink or swim. Democrats only think they have to be marginally better than Republicans and that bar is lower than ever. It’s up to voters to nominate Democrats with higher standards.
You are objectively wrong. Trump was far weaker in 2020 than 2024. Those four years got us project 2025 and gave Trump the time to build his current coalition. Corporate America wanted nothing to do with Trump in 2016 or 2020, but it folded immediately in 2024, thanks in large part to project 2025.
To be clear, I will not be voting for another corporate Democrat in 2028, and I’m far from alone in that. That time is over. There is no “going back” to before Trump.
Jan 6 working would have had a whole lot of consequences beyond just leaving Trump in power. I’m glad it failed.
If Trump has won the election, the world would have been significantly worse in 2020 than it was, but not nearly as bad as 2024. Democrats would have swept 2022 and would have been in a great position by 2024, and the corporate establishment would have a weakened hold on the party after the failure of Biden.
The Democrats now know that the 2028 election will be 100% a referendum on the Trump presidency, no matter who the Democratic candidate is. They are going to try to force in an absolute piece of shit like Newsom, and it will probably work just as well as Biden did. I can’t wait for the Vance/Miller presidency in 2032. That will be great.
If a corporate Dem wins the 2028 primary, America is over. The general election will be irrelevant.
I think instead of a civil war, it will continue like The Troubles in Northern Ireland.
Random attacks, brutal crackdowns by corrupt police forces, and the authorities seeming to delight in fomenting further violence. For thirty more years.
Yeah I can see this too, unfortunately. I keep hoping for full fasc, rip up the constitution, civil war so I can claim political asylum where I am currently living.

I agree it’s important to get the right people in, but I also think things could have gotten much worse by now if 2020 had gone the other way.

Well regardless I hope we even get a somewhat real 2028 election, let alone a 2032 one.

No. The point is to accelerate.
whose point? the nazis, or the resistance?
Avoiding a civil war is not the best outcome for the fascists.
Delusional. You seem to have no idea how deep in it we are in.
