In Australia our further right government (the Liberal party) used automated systems to collect ‘debt’ from welfare recipients who they tried to say had lied to get it.
Mostly innocent people got caught up in this whole fiasco and after being harassed ruthlessly by these systems and the legal threats going their way led to many suicides. They are arguing here that because they’re dead that you can’t say it was because of the automated debt collection.

It’s truly insane how there are people in the world who are able to say such things with a straight face. To attempt to make anyone believe such a thing is so out of touch with even the most basic humanity.
