Its not actually that big or tall, 4mx1.8mx1.6m, about the same as the new Renault 5 for length, very slightly taller and narrower.

Then why not just make it a hatchback? At least big SUVs have space inside to compensate for their terrible handling. Compact ones are the worst of both worlds.

But people who care about things like that aren’t a big enough market compared to the “cars are appliances” crowd.

It is basically a boxy hatch back that looks like a SUV, its not long, or wide as one as a SUV at all, its similar height to all the other (new) small hatchbacks at this price point, Renault 5/4, Dacia Spring, Hyundai Inster, Polo EV, Mini EV, etc. Sure its hardly low to the ground like a MX5 but then buyers of this don’t want that, and vice versa.

Its shaped like a SUV to maximize its internal space but it is as low as a normal hatch back and as tall as one, so it will have similar center of gravity. I see that as a good thing for a car in this segment. Its not trying to be sporty, its trying to be practical without being as boxy as a Wagon R.

I’m sure it’ll sell like hot cakes because that’s what the market wants.

But there’s not really anything for people who don’t want an SUV.

Depends how you define SUV, as this really isnt one as its dimensions are the same as hatchbacks.

What exactly would you like at this price point in recent history within the ICE segment? Its dominated in the UK by the Fiesta, which is approx. the exact same dimensions again, including height.

For me, it’s the ground clearance. My city has a lot of dips on intersections that would scratch up and damage a sedan or hatchback. Compact/subcompact SUVs also tend to have more headroom and vertical trunk space.

I think the real question is how have they fitted in a usable 61kwh battery into something about the same size as the new Renault 5 and Inster that both only manage about 50kwh. The Kona EV comes with the same size battery pretty much, and thats a lot bigger.

If they can keep that long range model affordable then they are going to have a big seller on their hands as that’s a significant range boost over the competition in its size segment.

The standard range model doesn’t interest me as much as other cars that have about the same battery but will be cheaper.

Very few modern, production, EVs dont use a skateboard, its limited to the likes of the sportier Porsche and Rimacs, proper and expensive sports cars in other words.

Do you consider the likes of a Tesla Model S, Roadster (if it ever launches), Model 3, Polo EV, etc. as a ? As those are also all user skateboards.

I think its a bad way to define an what is an SUV as you are now including what are quite obviously saloons or hatchbacks into the same class.

Looks… nice. The main problem I have with it is that it’s not an electric El Camino/Ranchero revival. C’mon carmakers, we want sedans with beds! You could shape it into a long hatchback with a removable/retractable bed cover too.

…this started as /s, but now I’m not sure. That convertible bed electric hatchback sounds kinda sick. ^(Cue someone telling me it already exists. No, the '24 Santa Cruz doesn’t count, it has the size and styling of a small truck.)

I’m guessing this won’t be for sale in North America? Range looks decent, but charging speed should be faster in a car coming out in 2026.

Europe only car as far as I know. Most people looking at this car charge overnight at home anyways; so its not really needed. a worthy trade of imo.

Fast charging speed makes a difference on a road trip. Otherwise it’s just a commuter car.

I love my Bolt, but I don’t enjoy adding an hour to my trip when I need to travel. If they’d build more chargers at highway restaurants, I might not mind as much. But sitting in a cruddy wal mart parking lot, or at a gas station is a drag.
