    The big problem, I think, is that a relationship-oriented Europe has hit a transactional American administration. To Trump, you are only a friend if you are convenient. To Europeans, you don’t throw away 80 years of alliance over a few poor decisions.

    For Macron to say that the US is turning away from its European allies is like filing divorce papers. The Europeans will never consider the US an ally again. Like a recently divorced person, they are lost at sea trying to figure out what’s next, but it’s not going to be a return to the abusive relationship.

      EU vs. Trump/Brexit/etc. has been a very different understanding of the world for years: Win-win vs. Zero-sum. We need to get rid of the latter and push for the better. Win-win should be the foundation of a united world.

      Europe has had a long history to look back on. US is still in that teenage hormonal phase and doesn’t know what to do despite being spoiled for 80 years.
