You know like the tension that happens when one country FUCKING KIDNAPS the LEADER and WIFE of another SOVEREIGN NATION!!! After months of rando- killing fishermen off the coast of that aforementioned INDEPENDENT COUNTRY. No minor coincidence that said country has enormous oil reserves. What is with trump & co’s penchant for kidnapping!?!

What tension between the U.S. and Venezuela could mean for Canada

It’s just an article on oil speculation, nothing about politics, human lives, further US imperial expansion etc. Glad to see CTV focusing on what’s important.

I know what it means for Cuba. Venezuela was practically their only economic partner. Their oil came from Venezuela. They’re pretty much fucked now.

Canada needs a nuclear arsenal. If you are against this, you are against Canadian sovereignty.

Hey, don’t make it two dimensional like that. That’s how witch hunts happen.

One possible counterargument: Canada is single, medium-ish nation, but nuclear proliferation threatens humanity itself.

In a perfect world no one has nukes, unfortunately we don’t live in that world so the next best thing is that every nation that wants to stay sovereign has nukes.

Canada needs better history education classes to prevent stupid comments on Lemmy. What happened in October 1962 when a sovereign country close to the USA tried to install nuclear weapons?

Anyone? The Cuban missile… Anyone? Anyone?

Trying this would trigger immediate annexation and the CAF would be done by brunch.

I’m very aware of the Cuban missile crisis, thank you. What you support is rolling over without a fight. I’ll direct you to the second half of my previous comment.

Not sure why government officials in Canada aren’t terrified of sitting in a US prison camp after an invasion. The only way Canada at this point is able to build their nuclear arsenal without invasion is asking UK or France for protection while they procure what is necessary, this will be a threat of WW3. This Venezuelan invasion should also be a warning to every Canadian to pull out their investments from S&P500, protest the government to redirect investments of CPP and other public investments, stop using unethical American services like (Linkedin, Instagram, Facebook, Google, Paypal, Mastercard, etc. etc.), and lastly establish a Swiss style citizen militia. Good luck Canada, I’m really rooting for you but at this rate you’re still fucked.

TLDR: Alberta gas and oil is fucked. Texas is fucked.

Good thing Alberta has all those other industries they didn’t ignore last 50 years, or they will send Danny begging for bailouts.

So, higher oil prices then. Perhaps it will also make Mark Carney pause for a moment and try to get a little more in return before he inevitably gives in to US demands to buy their fighter jets.
