This will be my last post from this account. I have had nothing but good experiences on this instance and have always felt there is way more we have in common than divides us.

However, after having followed the discussion concerning the recent policy update closely, I know a single conviction I hold requires me to leave: That the wide spread and nature of antisemitism (which aims at the elimination of every person identified as Jewish) make a state run by those threatened by it necessary as a means of self-defense and self-determination (this is underscored by the fact that no state stepped in when the Shoah was happening but only when they felt threatened themselves). This will be the case at least as long as capitalism is around, which will always lead to the reproduction of antisemitism.

Please don’t get me wrong: The right-wing government of the state of Israel, the oppression and killing of Palestinians, the settlements and the propaganda trying to cover these up - all this has to end right away. The crimes committed by Israeli organizations or individuals have to be prosecuted, the murder has to stop immediately and a fair peaceful solution must be found.

Nations and states in general have to be abolished. I hope and fight for a reality in which all humans can live together equally and in peace without having to fear to be different (for lack of better terms: a free association of individuals in a stateless and classless global society). But at the current condition of the world this is not in the foreseeable future - hence a ‘Jewish’ state seems to be the only (and very imperfect) option at the moment.

The fediverse is not my focus as an activist. I am mainly trying to organize my coworkers in a union, battling the rising fascism and reading anticapitalist critiques together with others in the “offline world”. Hence my activity here was limited, Lemmy has been more of a pastime for me.

I hope you will consider these points should we run into each other in the future. If this is grounds enough to ban me from this instance/put me on your blocklist: I have singed up at slrpnk recently and will be using that account from now on. To everyone who will meet me on (reserved) friendly terms after this post: Fair winds and following seas!

[I would much rather have added this as a comment under the proposal than create a post in YPTB, as I don’t think this is a big thing, but alas I didn’t finish writing this down before the vote was through and the post in Governance was locked.]

Antisemitism is not the same as wanting a whole country if people to die. Also, it’s not antisemitism to criticize Israel. One reason everyone is turning on Israel is that we’re sick and tired of being told that everything they do is okay and if we don’t agree we’re racists. No, you don’t need to exterminate a whole group if people to survive. That’s a slippery slope.

The reactionary entrenchment in the government, and the oppression of the native population, are directly consequences, and as such, inseparable from, Israel’s nature as a settler-colonial ethnostate.

Israel was established by ethnic cleansing called the Nakba, on a premise of Jewish supremacy. Palestinians were displaced, murdered, and encaged. There is no possibility of such an entity developing along a path that is liberatory or egalitarian.

There is no possibility, either, of an entity that starves children also authentically originating from a premise of self defense.

a single conviction I hold requires me to leave: That the existence of antisemitism means it is ok for a state run by zionists to steal land and use violent oppression against the people already living there. I am unable to imagine Jewish people living and forming communities anywhere else peacefully. I don’t agree with the way Israel was formed or how it has operated since its violent formation, but the peaceful solution is to… continue operating a state that “defends” itself through unnecessary violence

Smh. Not only is this the wrong community, but this is just a terrible take. You should reflect on yourself and remove your brainworms.

I’m a little confounded by a couple of your points, mainly that Zionism as an ideology predates the Shoah and that antisemitism predates capitalism. Shit, the Protocols of the Elders of Zion was written in a semi feudal autocratic monarchy.

Fucking Martin Luther, father of protestant Christianity, who nailed the 95 theses to church doors also wrote a book called “The Jews and their Lies” and pretty sure that pre-dated modern capitalism.

The native people of Palestine are more Semitic than the European colonizers who settled in what we currently call Israel. I don’t care what religion you are or what your holy book says, you don’t just get to take people’s homes.

After the Holocaust, should the Jews have gotten their own state? Perhaps, but in that case it should have come out of Germany. That would have been much more fair, and more fitting with the fact that that’s where they already lived.

Obviously we don’t have a time machine, and we are left to deal with the present as it is, but yeah. Zionism is both fascism and religious supremacy and it has no place in the modern world.
