Summary:
NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani just signed a set of housing-related executive orders.
- The city plans to step into the bankruptcy proceedings of Pinnacle Realty, pointing to thousands of violations and complaints as well as money owed to the city. Mamdani said the city plans to “seek immediate relief and improve living conditions for Pinnacle tenants.”
- One new task force, LIFT (Land Inventory Fast Track), will look for city-owned land that can be used for housing, with a report due in 2026
- Another new task force, SPEED (Streamlining Procedures to Expedite Equitable Development), is aimed at cutting red tape in permitting and approvals, focused on making it more affordable to build and easier to access housing across NYC

Wow, a report due sometime this year?
#1 and #3 sound food, and I understand many things require time. #2 sounds like the beginnings of thinking about a plan stuff that lead democrats to rarely actually getting anything done.
Good day 1. This needs to keep up with week 1 and month 1 culminating in tentpole reforms that are actually rolling out by the end of the year at the latest.
Exactly my thoughts on bullet 2. Is the task force working on other high priority items? Is the city’s shit so not together they cannot produce a single list of all properties they own in a week? This is the kind of thing that will fuel anti-Mamdani sentiment.
