Well, its a bit unfair to say the Qing troops didn’t have guns, but the Boxers were mostly angry peasants, armed with the weapons in the picture, if they were lucky, or nothing at all. They decided to take the eight-nation alliance (which was more like 11 or 12) and royally got their asses kicked.
They famously laid siege to the legation quarter in Beijing for 55 days, burning their own library and much of their own city, against some 500 military men and literally 1 muzzle loaded canon. And then lost. In their own capital.
It also led to the Russian occupation of Manchuria.
