Panettone is an Italian type of sweet bread and fruitcake, originally from Milan, Italy, usually prepared and enjoyed for Christmas and New Year in Western, Southern, and Southeastern Europe
The word panettone derives from panetto, a small loaf of bread. The augmentative suffix -one changes the meaning to ‘large bread’.
This is why I love romance languages. Diminutive to make the original word refer to something smaller and then an augmentative to make it big again. So basically this translates to “a large small loaf of bread”. Love it.
Panettone is overrated. A good pandoro is much better, and you won’t change my mind.
Taste is subjective! I believe it’s important to let people not like things, so more power to you, and more panettone for me
There’s a wide gap between mediocre panettone and good panettone.
I just hate candied fruit and raisins. I don’t like them at all.
Would you? Could you? In a car? Eat them! Eat them! Here they are!
There are a ton of kinds of panettone though…
Raisins can go fuck themselves, but the other fruits are delightful. Lemon, orange, cherry, citron! I’ll even sneak a little ginger in there sometimes.
My wife and I just call it “tall cake”.
