      Cleaned off, but probably untouched other than that. Artifacts like this found in the right environment can be incredibly well-preserved.

          In certain conditions, paint can be very well preserved. Painting objects out in the elements, like public statues, need regular touching up, but a piece that’s been buried in an arid environment can retain its pigments for an extremely long time. We still find cave paintings, for example.
