Correction: bad for the bottom line only thinking ahead 1-4 quarters ever.

A healthy, motivated workforce is a world of difference, more productive, and will ultimately reduce hiring and training costs from turnover.

But they would have to look 1cm beyond “hurr durr line must go up faster this quarter than last quarter”

Why spend money keeping people around which will result in higher wages long term, when we can just churn through them and replace them consistently, saving money in both the short and long term. What could possibly go wrong?

Churn doesn’t save money. The business has to pay more unemployment insurance and their worker’s comp rates suffer, and more. Tack on the extra training time and having new dipshits running around, not good. One solid employee can easily do the work of two or three new people, and they don’t need supervised.

“But the caPiTliStS don’t know that!”

Yes, they do. The owners are simply too disconnected to understand why people leave their wonderful workspaces. Individuals are too timid to speak truth to power and we no longer have unions to do it for us.

It’s been my experience that workers have no issue speaking up, but because there’s no union, it just becomes disorganized noise and can be easily ignored.

Why is productivity down 80%? We can’t get good employees in our country We should downsize them all and outsource to India.

HR read some research and decided we’d be more effective with at least one 3-day weekend a month. We were mandated to take either one Monday or Friday off each month. Didn’t count against our PTO, just another 12 free days.

And that happens, where? Be specific please. Why not name businesses and times and places?

I’ve worked with hundreds of employers and only knew one that would flaunt the law like that. I’m talking shit employers, minimum wage employers, churches and restaurants and such.

“But it happens! My brother’s sister’s husband’s cousin had it happen to him!”

Employers are shit, but if you’re not going to name names, I don’t have to believe you.

Literally illegal. As long as you can get a few other people to raise a stink with you, they can’t do shit.

It can be fun to test just how mandatory these sorts of things are too. Playing dumb/forgetful can be fun and surprisingly effective. “Oh, I had to run out for lunch, I’m sorry. Oh god, it’s been two weeks? I’ve been meaning to pack but I just can’t find the time in the morning. Well, I’ll take care of it now then!” (during paid time)
