    This almost makes it look like the media corpos are just doing whatever is most profitable, but in reality it seems more like many of the owners are deliberately pushing rightwing propaganda because they agree with it - not just because it’s useful to them, people like Zuckerberg and Musk seem to be fully on board with all the culture war topics.

      Peoples’ values generally align with what’s in their personal best interest. Zuckerberg and Musk see the trend towards oligarchy and are happy to signal to the kingmakers that they are on the same side.

        Lots of non-rich people are racist, anti-LGBT+ or sexist, even though that’s only in the interest of the ultra-rich. Even if you’re in one of the larger in-groups, you don’t actually benefit from this - living in a far right dictatorship isn’t fun for anyone but the rulers, and poor or “middle class” people are not the rulers even if they are straight, white, christian men.
