When nations trade oil, food or technology, they settle in dollars — not because they have to, but because they believe in the stability, transparency and independence of the American system.

I would argue this isn’t really true any more. It’s more inertia and practical considerations, the trust trust and belief in stability and independence is already gone, very likely permanently.

Even if say the centre-right wins both legislative and executive elections, there is no reason to trust such an administratoration as any agreements will be overturned following the next election.

It seems that American society more broadly has embraced corruption and “bread crircus” (or should I say Big Mac and iPhone) type politics.
