Despite Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries' rejection of the idea, calls are mounting for Pete Hegseth to be impeached over his role in the illegal strike on boat bombing survivors. Even many Republicans are raising questions about his actions.
He doesn’t seem to understand that part of his job is performance, now. The world where boring, obtuse policymaking was the norm is gone. People want their politicians to be entertaining.
The GOP understand the role, and it’s what got them a second term of Trump, Project 2025, and the wholesale prop-up of billionaires, all by very publicly pretending to be for The People.
I think the vast sums of dark money, the foreign interference and the decades of voter suppresion, gerrymandering and backsliding on democracy had a much greater role than anything politicians did or said while campaigning.
More importantly they want their politicians to do things. Conservatives at least deliver on some of their promises (the evil ones, of course); liberals don’t have the decency to even try, because if they did they’d piss off their owners. Good policy is neither boring nor obtuse, because good policy helps people.

Yeah, I didn’t mean to imply that boring, obtuse policy being the norm was a good aspiration, just that it was the norm at one time.
