I finally got around to making salsa out of my tomatoes. I needed to test it out so I made some chips by frying some corn tortillas.
Cost per person: 65¢ Cost for chips: 50¢ Cost per cup of salsa with home grown tomatoes: 26¢
What’s your recipe? That looks amazing! I’m literally drooling, haha. Well done!
Salsa recipe I used. For the corn chips I just cut six stacked yellow corn tortillas into quarters and fried in peanut oil at 350 until they were done.
Thanks! I will try to make a batch for snacking on tomorrow! I have a pile of tomatoes to use up from the garden, so this is perfect!
Fuck yeah

Thanks for reminding me that I still have to make salsa with those garden tomatoes I froze. This looks so good.
I made salsa verde once a few years back and it was outstanding. I’d love to do it again, but it was a lot of work.
This recipe has you bake the halved tomatoes to dry them out a little and make removing the skins super easy. They stayed in the oven for an hour but not actual labor time was maybe 30 minutes total before loading them in the canner.
I might adopt this this for my tomato soup because it was much less work than boiling and shocking in ice.
Yeah I roasted tomatillos, onions and garlic for a while. Forget how long though.
