Anyone see this Power Rangers short film from a few years back?
Pretty badass
Honestly, one of the best character introductions ever.
A whole arc where the new character has the whole team fighting for their lives. And Kimberly confronting Tommy at school without powers and he just goes all Heero Yuy on her.
It made his addition to the team feel earned. And the
GreenWhite Ranger that he became was a character from a completely different show. The localization of Power Rangers was such a production that it became something original. The white ranger (green reskinned) was from a different show. The green ranger is from Super Sentai like the rest of them, the white ranger was from Gosei Sentai Dairanger. I just looked that up, neat!
That’s right, I missed a step. At the same time, they gave the other Rangers new Zords so the reproduction was even more involved than I initially remembered.
Isn’t it the White Ranger? https://screenrant.com/mighty-morphin-power-rangers-white-costume-dairanger-factoid/
Jokes aside, I got to meet the original Green Power Ranger when I was in Mexico City. He and his wife have a GREAT curry restaurant there. They’re both super sweet.
Had, unfortunately he died a few years back https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jason_David_Frank
I mean the ORIGINAL Green. From Japan.

Oh got it, that’s cool! I wonder how he ended up in Mexico
Airplane, probably.
Boat, possibly.
They wanted a change. I talked to them for a while. They’re lovely. It is weird to code switch between English, Spanish, and Japanese on the fly.
Oh fuck
On November 19, 2022, Frank was found dead by suicide in a hotel in Houston, Texas.[47] His wife Tammie, who was also staying at the hotel, subsequently explained that Frank had been struggling with depression and other mental health issues.

Mental health services need improving. Or just life in general tbh.
Sadly, it seems like a significant portion of the original cast have since either suffered or become something tragic.
Tommy was racist?
He became a white power ranger
Oh shit. I never noticed that before.
Jason’s actor was Native American. Zack is Black… Trini is Vietnamese.
Billy the Boy is Blue and Kimberly the Girl is Pink.
Even once you notice that I think you could probably argue it’s actually decent expression of diversity and inclusion (graded on a curve for the 90’s) that unironically did an “All Lives Matter” type reframing of “___ Power” type slogans well…
If the producers didn’t engage in racist, homophobic, and sexist bullying on set while screwing over all the actors and the White Ranger wasn’t frequently portrayed as the equal or better of the whole team combined.
I mean, I definitely noticed that the colored rangers were stereotypically assigned in the most racist and misogynist way. Even as a kid, we all thought it was messed up that the black and yellow rangers were black and Asian. Also, I heard much later about the homophobia and general toxicity of the production.
It just never occurred to me that it was the White Power Ranger. Especially when you consider that the show was a retread of a Japanese show that was several seasons behind, so they knew when they named them the Power Rangers that they would have a Black Power Ranger and a White Power Ranger. They could have called them literally anything. Super Hero Ninja Squad. Dino Buddy Fantastic Fighters. Mighty Morphin’ Turbo Rangers.
Yeah but that’s from Japan, not here. So its not like white power.

No I got the joke. I just didn’t think it was funny at all.
