“Google’s decision to host CBP’s immigrant-hunting app while removing one designed to warn people about the presence of ICE has concerned free speech experts.”

They’re just helping catalog and organize all the world’s information guys! Nevermind that they don’t want to catalog any information on the location of ICE officers, they don’t consider that part of the world’s information! /s

I mean, I don’t know what to say other than this is definitely showing whose side they’re on.

Any links to the apps in question?

This is why installing software (side loading?) is so important on our own devices. Who cares if google has a problem? Its my device, I should be able to do what I want with it, including install software.

Don’t worry. Next year Google will protect you from such dangerous apps by ensuring that you can only “side load” applications that they allow you to run.

Of course they are, but who are the shitbirds at Google working on it specifically? Managers and devs. They’re among us, they are on the internet and know exactly what’s going on. Shameful. Imagine this is your career and you get a promotion for it. Pathetic.

    Concerned free speech experts

But this isn’t a matter of free speech, is it? Google isn’t a government entity, and as such, aren’t they exempt from freedom of speech? The same thing happens with nearly every social media platform. They CHOOSE to let you in. They don’t have to. Google has CHOSEN to support ICE personnel instead of the people. Shitty and morally bankrupt, yes. I’m not arguing that. But why is this a first amendment issue?

People are lead to believe that the FA extends to all facets of their lives. I think that’s one of the reasons why they let corporations get away with so much deregulation. People often don’t realize how much less responsibility corporations have than them for the same actions. I still get shocked pikachu faces when I tell people what limited liability is and they ask how is this shit legal.

Corporations aren’t people and they don’t act in ethical manner you might expect. Any corporate action that isn’t furthering its profits one way or another should be considered a coincidence or a mistake. Very few firms, typically smaller, private, and or with special ideological predisposition fall outside.
