Is Lemmy in its grandma advice phase
I think we’re supposed to say millennial now
For years, there was an apartment nearby that had a little plastic action figure on the window sill outside. Just standing there in plastic glory watching the street, little sword ready to defend the home. I noticed this week it’s gone, and I was a little sad. I don’t know if it just fell down, or they moved and took it, or what.
I had a neighbor when I was growing up that always had this stuffed bear in a bedroom window. I didn’t know them at all, but I would see it heading to the school bus stop. Several years went by, and I was now in high school and driving to school, but I went for a walk and saw the bear was missing, and it made me a little sad, too.
I mentioned it to my mom, who of course went over and asked this random person she had never met about it. Turns out that the bear was her daughter’s favorite childhood stuffed animal. She had just graduated college, the first member of her family to do so, and had finally moved out to get a well-paying job in another state. My mom told me how proud the woman had sounded. At the time I was just like, “oh, okay,” but thinking about it makes me a bit sentimental about how joyful it was that the bear was finding a new home because of an incredible success.
I dig the vibe of the activity, but does everything have to be so performative. What about some quiet contemplation and internal awareness and appreciation / gratitude that the world has given you a moment to perceive it in more detail. I’d take that over needing to vocalize that cringe sentence at the end.
I do think it’s better without saying the thing out loud at the end too.
Say that out loud, and become one of somebody else’s three unseen things.
Every walk is the noticing walk when I do it. Sometimes it’s problematic when I walk with someone and suddenly stop because I either saw a cool bug, or a really cute lizard.
Nice to see a wholesome meme that isn’t just about having low self-esteem.
Pro-Tip: if you happen to pass underneath a bird, Don’t Look Up directly at it. 🐦
Pro tip: if you look directly up under a bird your whole life, the share holders might just award you with 1 trillion pay package.
This is how your new hobby of bird watching starts. Sneaky.
A 10 minute walk? Without my car?!
I love this! It’s a really positive thing to do, I’m gonna make an effort to do it
Something about “the world is wider than i remember” cracked me up and i cannot explain why
