My favourite trick is to take on as much work as possible, and make myself completely pivotal to the entire operation. Then get a new job without mentioning it.

Last job I actually got fired as part of some union-politic antics. I was laughing as I got escorted out the building. I was responsible for about 60% of the entire workload of my team of 8 people.

And that’s when I ask “how much is the pay rise for the extra responsibilities”?

“As soon as you start paying me their salary in addition to my own, perhaps.”
