Just hope that whoever continues the series has the proper support and heart needed to do it justice.

Hasbro saw the dollar signs that came with a video game and will try and force someone else to do the next one to hit those sweet, sweet shareholder numbers. Unfortunately it will be marred by poor middle-management, unrealistic deadlines, and overworked developers. Larian very carefully crafted BG3 with love for the franchise and the community that plays it.

I didn’t think I’d care for him when I first started playing. But he’s become one of my favorite fictional characters.

I didn’t like him as a person (in game of course), but I always like having companions in games that I don’t see eye to eye with. It’s way more realistic than, for example, Dragon Age Veilguard, where everyone is your buddy from the get go and “don’t you dare try to say anything mean to my little character I spent a lot of time lovingly crafting!” is what I assume the devs were thinking at the time. That, and Marvel brain rot dialogue…

Got back into gaming when BG3 was blowing up. Felt like I was part of a moment. Is that just buying a AAA game list price? Or was it as special as I remember?

Nah man, BG3’s release was a phenomenon. I had people who are barely gamers casually start talking about D&D party dynamics and how nice it was to have a game focused at adults. I don’t think Larian was even prepared for it to be such a slam dunk.

Honestly i feel like it was huge, i can only think of a few titles that i would consider their launch to be so much of a culutral event, and not many in recent years. Half-life 2 for sure, skyrim, i guess doom 3. Since then maybe only cyberpunk and elden ring i guess? But even that felt different
