    Israel and Hamas

Sweet Satan, I hate that framing. It’s Israel and Palestine. They aren’t at war with “Hamas”, they’re at war with the Palestinian people.

Would you say the Palestinian people are also at war with Israel? I wouldn’t say so. They’re sitting ducks. They are innocent bystanders being slaughtered. That’s no war. The war is between Hamas and Israel, but Israel is punishing all of Palestine. That’s my take at least. Maybe I’m misinformed.

What it is is a genocide.

It can be both a genocide and a war. Hamas is the de facto government of that territory and represents the Palestinian people in Gaza. There was fighting between Organized and ranked Hamas Military forces and IDF right up until the last ceasefire.

The genocide was a result of the targeting civilians as part of the war, breaking rules of war.

Hamas […] represents the Palestinian people in Gaza.

Do they really though? Kind of like Trump represents the people of America?

There is argument to be had I guess but I would say yes they do. They have been governing the strip for close to two decades and have popular support from the population even post oct 7th. After the latest ceasefire they still de facto govern the strip.

I would say Trump represents the people of America as well. He is the elected leader and his views may not represent all the citizens but his actions are the actions of America.

While technically correct, I would still refrain from calling an attempted eradication a war.

Just going to once again plug that Hamas is the name of the publicly elected government of the territories of Palestine, elected in 2006 to help restore order after the third-to-last “war” with Israelis.

        It’s Israel’s framing because

        A) They don’t believe that Palestine exists

        and

        B) Nobody likes Hamas, so an Israel v. Hamas war sounds much more positive, even though the vast majority of people being killed have nothing to do with Hamas.

I have no horse in the race with Israel and Palestine. Hamas committed absolute terrorist attacks unprovoked (debatable but I’m sure you know what I mean). Now if you’re saying it’s not Israel V Hamas, then I guess you’re saying that Palestine itself committed those terrorist attacks?

You can’t have it both ways, it’s a very complicated fight that Israel has stepped way over the mark of what was reasonable retaliation, but to say it’s Palestine the country, paints a darker picture and damages the credibility that this is a genocide.
