A newly filed bill in Florida is aiming to change the way the Sunshine State regulates high-speed electric bicycles. If…
Why would 21-28mph need a license if you can ride a 50cc scooter that can go 30-35mph without a license?
It seems to specifically target electric bikes instead of “safety.”
The people around me (south Florida) who use e-bikes as their primary means of transportation are mostly poorer people of color who probably don’t even have a license. The people who use them for fun are mostly wealthier and white and do have licenses already. Draw what conclusions you will from that.
Yeah, seems like it would convince more people to get a gas powered scooters. They’re usually around $1000 and get like 85mpg. And because Florida laws, you aren’t required to wear a helmet. Although registration is usually like 7 dollars a year. No one is doing inspections for vehicle registration renewal or such there either, so you can buy kits to bore out the 49cc engine and make them go a bit faster as well. Age requirement is 16, haha. I remember going through all the information when I got my motorcycle license there back in 2008. Doesn’t appear they’ve changed anything with those. I remember I bought an AR-15 and a 600cc Yamaha that year… to be young and wrecklace again, good times. (I would have been 18/19, so not old enough to buy a pistol at the time yet)
