Where I grew up they had certain streets end when they intersected perpendicularly with another one. Turn, and go down this other street and you’d eventually be able to find the original street continuing in the same direction, just not in a straight line. Named the same, too! Made trying to find a specific address before GPS and smartphones needlessly difficult.
Also, the font and size was the worst. You couldn’t tell if ‘1 ST’ was ‘1st’ or ‘1 Street’. Same with ‘3 RD’: was it ‘3rd’ or ‘3 Road’ (they had both separate streets in the same town).
That’s in addition to 4th Ave intersecting with 4th Rd, like in this image…
