I bought these, and I don’t know if this was a brilliant or idiotic idea.

Let me put it like this. When you buy a monkey NFT there’s exactly a zero chance of getting “grape flavored drink” & crackers. So I’d say it was a fine idea.
It’s not bad to have around in case of emergencies. They’re also not terrible while camping. They’re kinda heavy so I wouldn’t take them backpacking, though. The ones I’ve seen have been expensive for everyday eating.
It was <$5 a unit, so I think it was a deal. They passed their inspections at least.
Yeah that’s cheaper than I think I’ve seen them. It’s been years since I looked, though.
Looks like they’re all American MREs, so as long as they’re not too expired, they should be fine. Not a delicacy or anything, and probably not the healthiest for someone not doing a lot of physical activity, but they’ve come a long way from the notorious ones of old, and American expectations for food are higher than a lot of other militaries.
All of them are inspection date December 2024, manufactured December 2021. I bought them from a seller who was selling them at <$5 a unit at a bulk rate.
I’m not sure if two cases was the right play though. Split one with my roommate tho (Chicken Burrito Bowl MRE) and he liked it.
Just make your way through them, don’t store them away. Unlike a soldier in the field, you can use your home seasonings and condiments to perk them up and add vitamins. Squeeze of lemon, little salsa, or even serve it over a bed of fresh lettuce.
If kept in a dry, room temp environment, those things will be good for 10+ years.
I’ll buy a few cases every couple of years and rotate into my natural disaster kit and use the old ones for camping/hiking.
Kids hate them, but they are so damn convenient.
+1 on using hot water though. The heaters just don’t have the punch they used to.
I checked the temperature stickers and they all seem fine, so at least the seller didn’t take them from an abandoned desert XD.
Used a flameless ration heater on one I ate tonight, it worked really well. Felt as warm as if I used a pan on the stove.
Let’s get these onto a tray
I wish it came with a metal tray. Or if I had one.
One did have a nice hiss though.
Hell yeah
It’s a great idea, IMO. I have 3 in my emergency bag and rotate them accordingly. Depending on your taste buds and how hungry you are, the “meat loaf” and “roast beef” are good.
I usually just sautée some veggies to go with the MRE that I have to make. They came in handy during the winter. Never had chicken burrito; let us know if you like it.
Also, $5?! That’s dirt cheap! 👍
EDIT They’re about double (I think) of what a person’s daily caloric intake should be so it was perfect for us after several hours of shoveling snow.
I split it with my roommate, we both liked it. It actually had two tortillas, so it worked out pretty well.
The only thing that sucked was the drink mix (but I’ll chalk it up to user error because we definitely used too much water), and the Tabasco was already dried up inside. Luckily we had hot sauce in the fridge.
It was better than Taco Bell, that’s for sure XD
Awesome! TBH, I’ve never met an MRE I didn’t like. Looking forward to trying those soon. Thanks!
very good emergency food stuff - and can be nice for a backpacking - I assume they are cold packs? not what I’d eat for an everyday dinner lol
(i.e. that they need warm water to be eaten, and not just water)
For a Ukrainian soldier it should be ok, otherwise it doesn’t looks good…
I did find 2 Chilli Mac’s and Pepperoni Pizza one in the B box, heard good stories about those…
