I’ll buy a few cases every couple of years and rotate into my natural disaster kit and use the old ones for camping/hiking. Kids hate them, but they are so damn convenient. +1 on using hot water though. The heaters just don’t have the punch they used to.

Used a flameless ration heater on one I ate tonight, it worked really well. Felt as warm as if I used a pan on the stove.
If kept in a dry, room temp environment, those things will be good for 10+ years.
