Independent Senator Bernie Sanders floated Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez as a potential presidential candidate in the 2028 elections, saying that even though it’s “her decision to make,” she is a “very, very good politician.”
Speaking to Axios, Sanders said that he has been “out on the streets with her” and noticed how she responds when people come up to her. “It’s so incredibly genuine and open.”
Ocasio-Cortez is seemingly positioning herself to run for higher office, whether it is challenging Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer for his seat or to make a run for president.

As a fucked up two-party system, the US cant really have female presidents. The candidate needs to round up new voters while retaining the old voters. A female candidate is sure to lose a lot of votes, just because she’s female and way too many idiots are uncomfortable with a woman in charge of something.
While I’d love to see AOC as president, I think the democrats badly need to find a male to take the role as candidate.
Id love to see a female president. Based but downvoted. I love lemmy but this place is too progressive to hear basic truth.
To the people downvoting, consider the average voter and then realise.

when it happens will you be surprised or say you’ve supported them all along?

this is america. if we elected trump’s incompetence twice - I think the country is brave enough for the right person.
This person definitely claimed after the fact that they never doubted Obama and it was obvious the country was not just ok electing a black guy, but enthusiastic about it.
Obama didn’t just eek out a victory, he knocked it out of the park. None of their theories about the unstoppable power of prejudice account for all those bigots just taking 8 years off.
I supported kamala all along and she lost so I guess we are both a bit

I would argue that the US is not brave enough for the right person after voting for trump twice, I’d argue something else - perhaps too retarded for the right person? I say this with a really fucking heavy heart.
What made you support her all along? Just because not-Trump or is there more to it? I’m curious because the last thing I wanted was Trump back in the WH. But at about a week into her campaign, I knew it was going to be a disaster. Her refusal to separate herself from Biden to give him some kind of “respectful send off”, and her refusal to denounce the war in Gaza, also likely forced on her by the establishment. Whether or not she actually would have, who knows. But politically, it was so clearly the right move to make. This was at a point in time where a majority of voters were against the war, and the vast majority of democrats. It would have been so easy. One phone call and the war is over. Always been that way. Now here’s Trump getting all the credit.
AND THEN she gets on stage at the DNC and starts screaming about how we need to build the most lethal fucking military in the history of mankind or some fucking crazy shit like that… GOD it was so painful to watch her make the wrong move every single step of the way.
By the time the election came around, I did vote for Kamala as I live in a swing state. But damn did I not feel good about it. It felt like compromising on my morals and values in the name of damage control instead of sending a message like “hey, you guys fucked up bad, you seemingly did not even attempt to earn my vote beyond “Orange Man Bad” and you’re going to have to make some SERIOUS changes next time around”
Instead, the election was pretty close. Knowing establishment dems, they probably see that as success in a way. Like, “okay, so we did mostly good but need to make a few more tweaks in order to get that last 1-2%!”
The first woman president will be republican.
